You saw that right, Nike and Stone Island are working together to release a capsule specifically for our birdie shooting friends. The golf capsule debuted at the 2019 Open Championship in Northern Ireland. The savvy pack features a crew neck sweater and jacket that merges Nike’s technological prowess with Stone Island’s utilitarian designs.
They have been pretty meticulous in their approach to the capsule. Both items have been designed to accommodate the full range of motion, so golfers will not feel any constraints or limitations during play. Other forms of practicality include a slew of pockets for golf balls, tees, and gloves.
On a more technological front, the materials used to construct the jacket are far from simple. The fabric used is bonded to a membrane that is both waterproof and adaptive. It helps regulate the temperature within the jacket by adjusting breathability, to lock in warmth and ensure you feel nice and cozy while at play. To add a little Stone Island flair, the pieces come in striking colors and finishes. The capsule is a true melding Nike’s technology and Stone Island’s design.
The collab was inspired by the weather conditions golfers face during competitions. They can change drastically, and with golf requiring immense focus, Nike wanted to develop outerwear that could help keep golfers focused on the sport and not the weather. As to why Nike chose Stone Island, Kelly Tweeden – VP and Creative Director for Nike Golf, Nike Tennis and Nike Skateboarding – explains, “As experts in creating a product that performs as well as it looks, Stone Island was a natural partner in finding the best solutions.”
The Nike x Stone Island golf capsule drops globally on July 25, so check out Nike.com to cop yourself a piece from the collection.
