The upper is constructed out of a blend of high-quality suede in different cream tones – each panel perfectly stretching to hug your feet. Paired with the Durapontex textured insole, the sneaker offers amazing step-in comfort. Due to the groves under the insole, the 990v1 feels like it is molding to your feet.

A source for the fantastic step-in comfort is the extra lining underneath all the panels – they keep all the surfaces surrounding your foot feeling smooth and comfortable. However, the inner heel is constructed with leather material and it’ll get uncomfortable after a while due to excessive friction against your ankles. High socks are a must when wearing these.

But like any sneaker from the era, as you break them in, they will feel a lot more comfortable and compress better underfoot. In the meantime, the thick insole does help absorb some impact.

A low-compression midsole is not necessarily a downside as you can expect the midsole to last a really long time – it simply will not bottom out. Adding to the durability is the segmented Vibram outsole that gives all the necessary grip while offering added durability.
