First released in 1984, Nike’s Air Jordans are undoubtedly one of the most coveted shoes in the sneaker scene. If you’re a sneakerhead, you probably already own a pair of Jordans. As of today, there are 35 different Air Jordan models which have been released in countless colorways. What makes Air Jordans more hyped are the sheer number of collaborations that the brand has produced. From tie-ups with Billie Eilish to Union LA, here are seven of the most unexpected Air Jordan collabs ever.
Model: Billie Eilish x Air Jordan 15
Approx. Price: S$597
Billie Eilish is a huge sneakerhead and has been spotted with several Jordan silhouettes on feet, from the Jordan Legacy 312 to the AJ1 High Dior. Being such a big fan of the Jordan brand, it was only expected that a collab was soon to come. What was unexpected, however, was that Billie chose a less popular silhouette – the Air Jordan 15. The Billie Eilish x Air Jordan 15 was released in a nude color that was 100 percent vegan, in keeping with her sustainable lifestyle.
Model: Union LA x Air Jordan 4
Approx. Price: S$1,006
After two years of silence since the release of the Union LA x Air Jordan 1 in 2018, the duo finally released an Air Jordan 4 – which was not up to everyone’s standards. Compared to the coveted Union LA x AJ1s, the AJ4s were a lot different. Inspired by sneakers from the 1980s, the shoe was covered in yellow suede, a white midsole and a mesh toebox that has never been seen on an AJ4 before. While fans of the Jordan silhouette were disappointed, the AJ4s eventually grew on some of them.
Model: J Balvin x Air Jordan 1
Approx. Price: S$624
J Balvin made history by being the first Latino artist to collaborate with Nike. He first teased his Nike collab during the Super Bowl halftime show in 2020. The J Balvin x Air Jordan 1 arrived in a tie-dye colorway – a first for the Jordan brand. The AJ1 featured a rainbow gradient, with jagged edges from the heel to the toe box. Months after he unveiled the one-of-a-kind shoe, the J Balvin x Air Jordan 1 hit the shelves and immediately sold out on its release day.
Model: PSG x Air Jordan 7
Approx. Price: S$404
After the Jordan brand signed a deal with French football club Paris Saint-Germain in 2018, there have been multiple PSG x Air Jordan releases. The duo has worked on classic Jordan silhouettes like the AJ1s and AJ4s, but this was the first time that they released an Air Jordan 7. The shoe was dressed in white, University Red and College Navy which represents the signature colors of the PSG logo.
Model: Nigel Sylvester x Air Jordan 1
Approx. Price: S$913
Before becoming the first-ever BMX athlete to sign to Jordan, Nigel Sylvester created one of the most popular Air Jordans ever in 2018. The shoe came in a distressed cream colorway – giving it a worn-out look. Surprisingly, the first Nigel Sylvester x Jordan collab became one of the most anticipated drops of 2018. Today, the shoe resells for more than S$900.
Model: Levi’s x Air Jordan 4
Approx. Price: S$1,013
The Levi’s x Air Jordan 4 was released in celebration of the 10th year since the Levi’s x Air Jordan 1 first dropped. The AJ4 came in three colorways: “Denim” “Black” and “White”. Unlike the Levi’s AJ1, the AJ4 came in full denim upper and a gum outsole. Fans of both brands went crazy for this.
Model: Aleali May x Air Jordan 1
Approx. Price: S$1,220
In 2017, influencer Aleali May became the first woman to design a unisex Air Jordan sneaker. The Aleali May x Air Jordan 1 ‘Satin Shadow’ was a twist to the classic AJ1 ‘Shadow’ colorway. The shoe is seen in a black corduroy upper and silver satin overlay which were inspired by her dad’s corduroy slippers and her love for satin shorts.
