Everything you need to know about the YEEZY restock

adidas has just dropped its second batch of YEEZY sneakers and is moving one step closer to clearing its sitting inventory. Here’s everything you need to know about the YEEZY releases, what it means for adidas and some of the most popular colorways out right now.

At its peak, YEEZY accounted for 8% of adidas’ revenue, which amounted to US$1.7 billion. Their neutral and wearable colorways and fashion-forward designs, coupled with limited availability, made them highly sought after by sneaker enthusiasts, collectors and fans of Kanye West. You could not talk about street and sneaker culture without bringing up the brand.

However, after a slew of controversial statements from the founder, Ye, adidas made the decision to part ways with the multi-hyphenate. The move resulted in US$1.3 billion worth of unsold Yeezy stocks sitting in adidas warehouses all over the world.

On sale for a cause

In May 2023, an agreement was reached between Ye and adidas to clear the sitting stock while directing a portion of the proceeds towards groups fighting antisemitism and other forms of hate. The YEEZY Restock that happened on August 2, 2023 is one of the many releases under this new agreement. It also happens to line up with YEEZY Days from prior years.

Bjørn Gulden, the CEO of adidas, has also confirmed that they would also completely put a stop to selling YEEZY designs in the future. In a statement, Gulden said, “The Yeezy product is something that [West] created, he’s the inventor of it and we have been his partner. To take his designs and sell them off later, which we technically legally could do, is not part of our strategy. Our task now is to limit the damage, get rid of the inventory, use the proceeds to good … and build a business later without Yeezy.”

The return of crowd favorites

Lining up with YEEZY Days from past years, the August 2 drop saw the release of some of the most iconic YEEZY sneakers. This includes classics like the 350v2, 500 and 700 alongside WFH hits like the YEEZY SLIDE and FOAM RNR. The full list includes:

YEEZY colorways to keep an eye out for

As expected, the YEEZY August 2023 Restock sees a continuation of the of the neutral, nature-inspired color palette that was synonymous with the YEEZY line. Each item replicates some of their most famous colorways like Bone, Static, Utility Black, Onyx and Sulfur. This could be a sign of some of the other colorways set to arrive as part of the next few YEEZY releases.

These colorways are so synonymous with the brand that various silhouettes would often arrive in identical color schemes under the same name. Here are some of the best examples of YEEZY’s distinct color palette.
