Ye’s first foray into making performance basketball shoes has not been without its challenges and successes. The sneaker was originally rumored to have been axed by the NBA due to its use of 3M reflective material. This resulted in a period of silence about the project. Then, before All-Star Weekend in 2019, leaks and rumors started ramping up again. Next thing we knew, Sherps were rolling up in Chicago and handing Qntm sneakers out for free. Its limited and sudden release caught most sneakerheads by surprise.
This week, the highly sought after kicks are being restocked as promised. In Singapore, the Yeezy Qntm Quantum drops on September 5.
The sneaker borrows elements from various Yeezy sneakers. The lateral panels sport pixelated stripes that resemble the uppers seen on the Yeezy Boost 350 V2, At the forefoot is a suede panel borrowed from the Yeezy Boost 700 while the lacing system resembles that of the Yeezy Boost 700 MNVN.
In case you’re wondering, the Yeezy Qntm Quantum does have performance attributes. The encased Boost will not be as soft as that found in other Yeezy Boost silhouettes, making it more suited for the court. It has a herringbone-like traction pattern on the outsole which gives it the necessary traction to prevent the feet from sliding about. That paired with its high cut and added ankle support makes these Yeezys great for the court.
