The upcoming 1017 Alyx 9SM x Stussy collaboration capsule may appear to be an unlikely partnership, but both brands have come together with the shared ideal that clothes should be worn and appreciated. And the lean two-piece collection comprising footwear and a t-shirt does enough to convey that.

Matthew M Williams has emerged as somewhat of a rockstar in the fashion industry of late. Through his luxury streetwear label 1017 Alyx 9SM, the creative director’s imagination steers towards a futuristic and utilitarian reinvention of fashion that merges streetwear with functionality. Stussy, on the other hand, remains an iconic name in streetwear – loved and worn for its skate and surf influence.

Construction and a worn-out look – characteristics we’ve come to expect from Matthew M Williams – take a front seat in the 1017 Alyx 9SM x Stussy collaboration capsule. The S$139 orange-toned t-shirt, featuring Stussy’s signature logo above Williams’ name on the front, is more than meets the eye. Made from recycled jersey, the t-shirt is also garment-dyed to give it the air of rugged everyday wear. Black leather hiking boots, made in collaboration with outdoor shoe company ROA, complete the collection. Peep the handmade mud treatment on the boots too. At least you don’t have to actually hike in these S$895 boots to get the desirable worn-out look.
