This year, ASICS celebrates the 100th birthday of its late founder, Mr. Onitsuka. The event aims to highlight the milestones and accomplishments of the brand over the years.
Sunflowers appear to be a key feature of the event. But the yellow flowers are more than just a theme to the Japanese sportswear brand, they are symbolic of what ASICS stands for.
Mr. Onitsuka founded ASICS in post-war Japan in 1943. Inspired by the sunflower (in part due to his admiration of the painter Vincent Van Gogh), Mr. Onitsuka aimed to encourage the Japanese people to take control of their bright futures, just as sunflowers strive for excellence by reaching out for the sun. In his later years, Mr. Onitsuka expressed his love of sunflowers by painting them.
In keeping with Mr. Onitsuka’s love of sunflowers and art, the event includes garden-themed installations and other hands-on art activities. ASICS fans should not miss this event for the world, as it also showcases sneaker designs from the brand that date back to the 1950s.
To commemorate what would have been Mr. Onitsuka’s 100th birthday this year, ASICS released the KO100 series earlier in May, which comprises the Onitsuka Tiger Corsair, the ASICSTIGER GEL-Mai, and the ASICS GEL-Quantum 360. These limited edition sneakers from the KO100 collection – now sold out – will be on display at the event.
To spread the joy, we’re giving out 10 tickets to the ASICS 100th anniversary event. Each ticket admits two (2), so don’t forget to bring a friend! All you have to do is fill in the form and answer a simple question below! Good luck.
