Juxtapoz presents a new four-part documentary series that explores the history and importance of stickers in street culture.
Directed by Alexis Deforges, and co-produced by Jakprints and Wallplay, each episode explores various aspects of the sticker community and the influence it has on different subcultures, like skating and fashion.
“Stickers tap into that same collective consciousness that defines internet culture,” says Alessandra De Benedetti, co-founder of Wallplay. “Just like viral content is transmitted, they’re circulated around and placed in a certain context by the recipient as a social identifier.”
“At a time when street art is celebrated as the most important art movement of the century, I wanted to shed light on a medium that I felt was left in the shadow of the streets,” adds director Alexis. “As it has no speculative value for the mercantile art sphere, the sticker is truly a communication media for the masses, made by the masses…”
