Gosha Rubchinskiy Announces End of the Label: Five Things We’ll Miss About the Brand

Shockwaves reverberated through the Internet as Gosha Rubchinskiy announces the end of his eponymous fashion label via an Instagram post.

The Instagram post reads, “We will stop Gosha Rubchinskiy brand as you’ve known it. We will have no more seasonal collections. Instead, something new is coming.”

The post concurs with what the designer said in a recent interview, in which he revealed that he has grown tired of producing seasonal collections for his namesake label which is backed by Comme des Garcons. He also expressed a desire to focus more on project-based collections.

Following Rubchinskiy’s announcement, a CDG rep has made known that they will continue working with Rubchinskiy but are looking at new ways to create and sell products.

What the new direction will be is anyone’s guess. It could be that Rubchinskiy will turn his attention to his skatewear brand, Paccbet. Or – and this is a stab in the dark  – could Rubchinskiy be tipped to head CDG’s new online exclusive label? Notice the announcements of CDG’s online exclusive label and the end of Gosha Rubchinskiy the brand have been made strikingly close to one another.

Rumors are rife, but till anything is confirmed, here are five things we’ll miss about Rubchinskiy’s eponymous label:

Gosha lifted the lid on Russian youth culture through his collections

Europe lives and breathes football and Gosha knows this. He has taken iconic, classic football kits of the past and breathed new life into them. Thanks to Gosha, football fans have plenty of fashionable, occasion-appropriate gear to go catch the games – all the more so if they’re planning to catch the games in Russia, host to the World Cup 2018.

4) Breaking the barriers of language

Emblazoned across most of Gosha’s creations is Russian scripture spelling out his name (the brand name). While not many can read Russian, you’ll know a Gosha piece by sight. It’s just one of those things.

5) Fashion shows redefined
