Ronnie Fieg has been on a roll in 2019, and it is clear he has no plans to slow down. Yesterday he took to Twitter to give us a sneak peek of his latest project with Asics. The new Gel Lyte III he shared commemorates the very first Gel Lyte III Ronnie released with Asics in 1999 – the “Super Blue”. This sneaker was released in the early days of KITH, and remains one of the most popular sneakers to come from the collaboration.
The new Ronnie Fieg x Asics Gel Lyte II draws inspiration from the original “Super Blue” collab, even bearing the same name. However, the 2019 version has an upper mostly made of hairy suede in a very neutral off-white color, which is a lot more muted compared to the original sneaker. Ronnie’s signature “Super Blue” panels and Asics logo on the lateral sides accent the shoes. This clean-looking sneaker would match any outfit, making it an ideal daily shoe.
This variant of the “Super Blue” Gel Lyte III complements the Gel Fieg 3.1 announced last week. The latter comes in a mostly dark blue upper in hairy suede as well, a recurring element in the collection. The Gel Fieg 3.1 swaps the sole of the Gel Lyte III with the Gel Nimbus – an icon in the Gel Lyte line up.
At the moment, no release date has been set for the 10th anniversary collection, but stay tuned for updates on the drop. You can follow Ronnie Fieg on Instagram, @ronniefieg, for updates on his upcoming releases.
