Sean Wotherspoon shot to prominence courtesy of his winning Air Max 1/97 hybrid design that caught the attention of sneakerheads across the world. The Round Two founder’s love for vintage and eye for design came through in the sneaker’s pastel colors and coveted corduroy uppers – features that have won over sneakerheads, with some even calling it a collector’s dream.
Since then, his design chops have been tapped by the likes of Guess, among others. And now that he is no longer tied to a partnership with Nike, hints of a new sneaker collaboration has emerged, this time with Japanese sportswear brand Asics. Asics’ rich heritage has seen iconic sneakers like the Gel Lyte 3 gain cult-like following over the years. Kith’s Ronnie Fieg, for one, is known to be a prolific collaborator of the silhouette. But soon we can look forward to a Sean Wotherspoon Asics Gel Lyte 3 collaboration.
Wotherspoon shared a glimpse of the sneakers bearing familiar design touches on Instagram. The two iterations are dressed in pastel colorways and adorned with his signature corduroy and velcro tooling on the side panels. Further leaks showing a co-branded heel indicate that Japan’s Atmos might be in on the collaboration as well. While it’s unclear if there will really be a three-way collaboration between Asics, Sean Wotherspoon, and Atmos, there is genuine excitement for the sneakers.
No immediate details are available as yet, but if Wotherspoon’s recent Instagram story is any indication, the Sean Wotherspoon Asics Gel Lyte 3 might only be released in 2020. Keep tabs on this page for more updates on the collaboration.
