Released in 1998, the Vans Knu Skool is an iconic shoe that every skateboarder from the ‘90s will remember. Created as an updated model to the Old Skool silhouette, the Knu Skool quickly gained popularity among skateboard and streetwear fans to become Vans’ most sought-after shoe from that era thanks to its looks and functionality. The shoes are also significant to Vans as it was one of their first models to feature the iconic SideStripe, which has become an icon for the brand.
Now, Vans has reissued the Knu Skool, and it’s available in Singapore! The shoe has a sturdy construction with a suede upper. On the bottom is a vulcanized sole unit and Vans’ iconic rubber waffle outsole. Of course, the Knu Skool retains its iconic puffy tongue, ankle collar and 3D Sidestripe. The shoe is finished with oversized, chunky laces to tie in with the shoe’s puffy look. Read on for our guide on the sizing and styling for the Knu Skool.
How does the Knu Skool feel on feet?
If there’s one word to describe the feel of the Knu Skool, it’s comfy. With a heavily padded collar and tongue, it provides pillow-like comfort around the ankle and instep. You can wear them all day even when they’re straight out of the box. There is no need to break them in as their build allows for flexibility, making them perfect for skating as well. Despite their chunkiness and extra padding, they don’t feel heavy on-feet.
What is the sizing of the Knu Skool like?
The Knu Skool runs small because of its padding. Hence, you might want to go half a US size up for a snug fit. You can even go a full size up if you prefer a roomier fit. With the Knu Skool, you don’t have to worry about heel slippage if you size up, as the tongue is extremely thick and improves lockdown.
How to style the Knu Skool?
Styling the Knu Skool is easy as it is extremely versatile. Pair them with a graphic t-shirt and loose-fit cargo pants (read our cargo pants styling guide) or embrace the skater style with baggy pants and an oversized tee. You can even dress them up with long pants and a button-down shirt for a smart casual look. The possibilities are endless with the Knu Skool! Here are some outfit inspirations to get you started.
