Describe your journey to becoming a DJ.
Honestly, I didn’t have any intentions on becoming a DJ. I’ve always been a good listener who loved collecting records and going to parties huntin’ for quality music. I remember it was in 2008, I was studying software engineering in Malaysia at that time, and there was this good deal on a Numark direct drive turntable set with mixer included at a music store. I had a housemate who had been collecting records as well, so we decided to chip in for the decks just for fun. From there, I learned how to play my own records in good order until I got my first gig at a house party. One thing led to another, and I started to play at friends’ parties, store openings, bar gigs. It’s been great connecting and sharing quality vibes with others through music.

What have you been up to since you last played in Singapore at Good Times in July this year?
I’ve been playing at Lucy in The Sky and Bau-Haus 1933 (both in Jakarta) on a regular basis. And right now I’m in the process of revamping the DTW website, which will be launching real soon. Guys better stay tuned!

You’re part of the DTW family now. What’s the best part of this?
I’ve always been a fan of the label actually, bumpin’ Funk B’s mix a lot in the car. It’s great to know that the movement is constantly expanding in this part of the world, which is near my homeland. Being a part of DTW feels like being a part of a family that shares the same vision with extraordinary people keepin’ it real.

What are the best places to hang out at in Jakarta these days?
Tree House Kemang – I don’t know where else I could’ve started playing my music if this place weren’t around. Bau-Haus 1933, of course, for quality food and drinks with quality music. There’s also this new place called Soupanova with proper soundsystems with awesome local DJs running dope nights there.

What can people expect from your set next Friday?
Good vibes out of the rat city, Jakarta, of course. Hope to see you guys on Friday!
