While the G-Shock watch was initially developed by founder Kikuo Ibe to withstand impact, few would imagine – including the founder himself – that the brand would go on to have such a profound impact on street culture and the G-Fest is a celebration of this.
The street culture festival – a free public event at Scape – will be the first-of-its-kind organized by G-Shock. The location couldn’t have been more fitting seeing as to how Scape has been built up as a meeting point for the youths of Singapore.
There are several reasons not to miss the G-Shock G-Fest, chief of all: the music line-up. Some of Singapore’s best acts will be performing at the festival, including hip-hop artiste, Shigga Shay, R&B singer Sam Rui, post-hardcore band Caracal as well as DJ sets by DJ Gravity and DJ KIDG.
Another highlight of the G-Shock G-Fest is the art workshops. Legendary Singapore graffiti artist Clogtwo will be on hand to conduct a graffiti workshop and demo that might just inspire you to start spray-painting walls. Art collective Kult will be holding an up-cycling workshop, where you’ll learn to turn your old skateboard into a stool.
The festival will also be showcasing the brand’s extensive watch models. To highlight the significance of its 35th anniversary and its constant evolution over the years, the showcase will feature the very first G-Shock ever made – the DW-5000. But it gets better. G-Shock will be releasing the limited edition collaboration with Gorillaz exclusively at the festival, plus you’ll get to feast your eyes on upcoming G-Shock collab watches with Sneaker Freaker and N.Hollywood, among others.
There’s definitely a lot to check out at the inaugural G-Shock G-Fest, you may even stand a chance to take home limited edition G-Shock watches. So free up your weekend and rope your friends along!
