Netflix is bringing back the popular 80’s wrestling show, GLOW: The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. The cast includes Community alum Alison Brie, as well as Betty Gilpin and Marc Maron.
The original 80’s version of the show was meant to serve as a counterpart to Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Federation (WWF) but was produced very differently. Most of the female wrestlers had no actual experiences in wrestling, and the show was best known for its colorful characters and comedy sketches.
Netflix’s version shows Ruth Wilder navigating the trials of a struggling actress and her venture into women’s wrestling. In addition to working with 12 other misfits, she has to go against Debbie Eagan (Betty Gilpin), a washed-up soap opera actress. Directing them all is Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron), a has-been movie director who was tasked to lead them all into super stardom.
The series is created and produced by Carly Mensch, Jenji Kohan and Tara Herrmann, all of whom were previously working on Orange Is The New Black.

GLOW is set to premiere on Netflix on Friday, June 23.
