New Balance joins in the Chinese New Year festivities with a selection of sneakers for the festive season. The collection encompasses two 2002Rs, two 550s, one 574 and one 9060 – each one clad in colorways inspired by the Lunar New Year and the Chinese zodiac animal for 2023, the rabbit.

Rather than going for bold, which is the standard practice for Lunar New Year-themed collections, each sneaker arrives in muted colorways that would fit well into daily outfits. The 550 arrives in two options, one in tan leather and another in cream. With the 2002Rs, you can opt for a grey suede with cream hits or a deep brown and black colorway. The 9060 arrives in a light combination of silver mesh and grey suede while the 574 arrives in a bold all-red colorway. Each sneaker is made for the season but will remain wearable all year long.

The heel branding, tongue tabs and insoles are the only signs that the sneakers were made specifically for Chinese New Year. New Balance logos for all the sneakers come in a deep red color while the color-matched insole gets a special embroidered “NB” logo on the heel.

To mark the launch of the collection, New Balance partnered with Atmos on a special photoshoot in collaboration with the workers of Shikin Hanten, a household name in Chinese cuisine that’s located in Shibuya.
