Legendary Monsters are Finally Coming to Pokémon Go this Weekend

Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos are finally making an appearance in Pokémon Go.

Niantic is celebrating the one-year anniversary of Pokémon Go with legendary monsters.

Besides the aforementioned legendary birds, Ho-oh and Lugia (from Gen 2) will also be making an appearance this weekend.

In order to “unlock” these ultra-rare creatures, players from around the world will need to capture as many Pokémon as they can during a specific challenge window (see below).

This will eventually unlock a legendary raid battle at the Pokémon Go Fest event, which is happening in Chicago on Saturday, July 22.

If the event participants are able to defeat these legendary monsters, they will appear globally as raid bosses for players to fight and capture.

According to Niantic, these legendaries are extremely powerful and players will need to work together to defeat one.

Once captured, players can use them to fight other raid bosses and gym battles. However, they can’t be left to defend gyms.
