Eco-friendliness is the name of the game where it comes to SZA’s latest line of merch.
Sustainability is a reality that confronts the fashion industry and singer/rapper SZA unveiled her solution to the problem earlier this week.
The new line consists of sweatshirts and tees embroidered with phrases including “Puck Flastic” and “Sustainability Gang”. The pieces also feature embroidered motifs of seahorses and whales as a reminder of the need to save the ocean.
Despite the good intention, SZA copped heat for the collection. It seems that the Champion branding seen on the apparel led people to assume it was an official collaboration with Champion. An official collaboration would mean the collection was produced, i.e., more materials were used (and thrown).
In truth, SZA’s collection of sweats and tees are made with thrifted garb in an attempt to reduce the use of unnecessary material. Read SZA’s full response taken off her Instagram post:
SZA’s sustainable line of clothing will be sold under the Ctrl Fishing Co. brand and proceeds will go towards ocean protection efforts (source). There has been no confirmed release date yet, but be sure to follow @ctrlfishingco for updates.
