Was anyone surprised when Pantone announced the color of the year was Viva Magenta? If Valentino’s PP Pink show last summer and the promo for Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” movie this year weren’t indications 2023 was going to be a huge year for pink sneakers, you didn’t get the memo.
If you haven’t yet jumped on the “Barbiecore” trend, we’re here to convince you there’s no better time than now to go pink. We also came prepared with a selection of our favorite pink sneakers including pink Dunks to shop below, and no, they’re not all hot pink just to ease you into the color.
Need more evidence that pink is the new black? Just look at brands like Nike, New Balance and Salomon, which have been releasing GR models across all shades of pink. Nike even dropped a Nike Dunk Low GS ‘Triple Pink’ colorway, a sneaker which is also dubbed “Barbie”. The Sandy Liang x Salomon XT-6 Expanse ‘Cradle Pink’ was particularly well-received, and was sold out in retail sites in both the U.S. and Europe.
Even celebrities and designers haven’t been able to deny the power of pink, with DJ Khaled releasing pink variations of his Air Jordan 5 collaboration with Nike, as has Rhuigi Villaseñor of Rhude with the Puma Suede. The likes of Harry Styles, Brad Pitt, Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian have fully embraced Barbiecore by stepping out in all-pink ensembles.
If you’re not ready to commit but want to add a touch of pink to your look, pink footwear is the way to go. Not sure which pink sneakers to get? Shop our selection of the best pink sneakers in the links below.
If you are going all-in for the “Barbiecore” look, then create an all-pink ensemble with pants that are in a similar shade of pink as your sneakers with a lighter or darker pink top. Or pair them with neutral colors to create a balanced look that makes your sneakers stand out. You can also consider adding a touch of denim to your pink sneaker outfits, thanks to their blue hue that pairs nicely with pink.
