Sole Superior returned with a bang on November 22nd, just a week shy of its first anniversary and months after a pop-up in early 2014. The full-fledged sneaker convention that was started by dynamic duo Dexter Tan and Jonathan Fong took over Zouk yet again, this time even expanding to Velvet Underground. An estimated 1,800 people, largely local and regional sneakerheads, came together for a day of sneaker buying and admiring.
Sneaker brands were out in full force to showcase their new and upcoming releases, and vendors brought on the sneaker heat by selling and trading highly sought-after kicks. Even individuals who had a pair or two to let go could do so. Other homegrown and overseas labels complemented Sole Superior by selling a variety of streetwear, accessories and even toys.
The Straatosphere team had its hands full too, giving away two pairs of the Limited Edt x Reebok Pump 25th Anniversary through a treasure hunt. Redemption cards were strategically placed around Zouk, clues were dropped via Instagram, and then it was a sight to behold as sneakerheads searched high and low – some even looking into trash bins – to get a free pair of coveted kicks.
Sole Superior 2014 culminated in a grand lucky draw and it goes without saying that everyone was hoping to land themselves a prize, whether it was the Air Jordan VI “Slam Dunk”, UNDFTD x Nike Lunar Force 1s, or the beautiful adidas x Bombtrack fixie bike. Of course, only a lucky few walked away with the goodies, but for everyone else, it was a day well spent at Singapore’s very own sneaker convention. Till next time!
